Dannii Minogue - Unleashed (2007)

All I Wanna Do (Innocent Girl Mix)
All I Wanna Do is a great track, with a great video (despite those motorbike goggles) and this is sadly only an OK remix. Not the best way to start the album of unreleased tracks and would possibly be better placed towards the end of the tracklisting.

Blame It On The Music
Written with and produced by Roger Sanchez, this is arguably some of the most credible stuff that Dannii has recorded and is up there with her best offerings. The fact that this song was not released in its own right is criminal.

Spend Your Love On Me
An intriguing number, it has a string instrument I have never heard before or since all the way through it with a great bassline. The song sucks you in and an on-form Dannii does not let you go.

Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling (Jewels & Stone 7" Mix)
This song was released as the final single of Neon Nights ahead of a whole host of songs that deserved it more but that is a reflection on the high standard of Neon Nights rather than the low standard of this track. The Don't Wanna Lose This Groove bootleg is a better mix but the video shot in Spain makes this a perfect summer song.

Going Going Gone
A more poppy sound compared to the previous songs with the result an infectious, once-it-is-in-your-head-it-is-going-nowhere, fun song. The lyrics are easily related to and add to the fun element of what is, in essence, a sad subject matter. A favourite.

Everything I Wanted (Metro 7-inch Mix)
The three Girl singles showed off a brand new, critically-acclaimed Dannii Minogue, with this, the second of the three, being a favourite. The sound is drum-n-bass and the accompanying video was far removed from anything Dannii had done before. This mix is similar to the single edit so if you like that, you're gonna like this. If you haven't heard it, what are you waiting for?!

Undeniable
A slow jam with an Rn'B esque beat. It's a love song. Not bad, not great. It has been said that this track was included in the compilation at the last minute simply since it was there and other, preferred tracks, were not ready in time. It would have been a shame if this had not been included.

No Romeo
Online polls have had this down as the overall favourite on the album. It's a fast song, that for the verse is sung in Dannii's lower registers, which suit her voice best. The choruses are far too high, grate and have awful background vocals. For me this is the worst track on the album by a mile and it did not make the transition from CD to ipod.

Hide And Seek (Thriller Jill Original Radio Mix)
An alternate mix was released as a b-side on one of the Neon Nights singles and, once again, it is testament to the quality of that album that this song was merely a b-side. Along with Nervous & Goodbye Song, it could easily have commanded a release in its own right. I prefer the b-side version but this is still good.

Hurt In Love
This song intrigues me. It intrigues me a lot. It is completely original and starts fast with electronic sounds and what sounds like someone scratching at the lid of a coffin. It builds to a crescendo that falls back into a slower, Rn'B string version of the same song and then builds and builds to the original sound. I like this one.

Who Do You Love Now? (Riva's Bora Bora Edit)
This song was Dannii's most successful up until that time and remains a favourite amongst fans. It was a collaboration that was brought about by Pete Tong, once again giving credibility and cool to Dannii. If the original version was good (and it was) this version is mega! This is THE perfect track for the weekend. Even if Dannii is not your bag, get this version of this song!

Put The Needle On It (Cicada Vocal Edit)
A fantastic remix of a fantastic song. I would recommend this (and the original) to everybody with a love of dance music. The video is great too. Buy this, people!

Come And Get It (Alternative Radio Cut)
A mix of this song was a hidden bonus track on the Neon Nights album and the collaboration with JCA was printed up to be released in Germany only never to happen. Such a shame as this is a great song, which can be picked up electonically along with the other near-release of the same time, I Can't Sleep At Night. Both Good.

Begin To Spin Me Around (Dannii Vs. Dead Or Alive Radio Edit)
This bootleg did get a Germany only release and mashes Dannii's highest chart entry, I Begin To Wonder with You Spin Me Around. The result is OK. I prefer the original versions of each song but this is still worth a listen.

Love Me Like This
Arguably the most pop sounding song on the compilation. Once again, it is a catchy, inoffensive number that I found myself singing long after I had listened to it. It's good.

Bad Weather
Another pop song with acoustic guitars and a good beat. The choruses are catchy and this song comes recommended for the summer.

Invitation
Strings set the tone for what sounds as though it will be a slow affair only for the drums to come in and pick up the pace a little. The vocals sound good and the track bounces along nicely.

It Won't Work Out (Ross Cullum Single Mix)
The last song on Neon Nights gets a remix in preparation to be released as a single, which once again never happens and this time it really is a crime. This song is fantastic, the lyrics are moving, Dannii sounds great (the additional vocals towards the end of the tune are brilliant) and the instrumentation is wonderful. A real shame as I believe this would be well-received.

Unbelievable that some of these tracks only got to see the light of day on an Unreleased compilation with no promotion but fantastic that somebody took the time to see that they were brought out into the open. Usually these albums are for die hard fans only but I genuinely believe that a casual listener will like some if not all of the tracks there. With Dannii's increase in popularity due to her X Factor and Australia's Got Talent judging roles, may be this will generate more interest in her back catalogue, which is crammed with quality stuff. A collaboration with the Freemasons and a rumoured new album this year are worth watching out for.
